Want to dress up for Valentine's Day without blowing the budget? We're taking a cue from Cody Andrews and crew, originators of the viral Goodwill Date!
The Originals
The challenge: head to Goodwill and pick outfits for each other for the rest of the night.
In the original challenge, Andrews and friends took the silly route, finding outfits that were outdated, but oh-so-funny to wear out on the town. For them, the experience was about finding pieces that are totally unique and having fun while digging through the racks at Goodwill.
We love this idea, but decided to elevate it for Valentine's! Instead of ending up with outfits that will eventually be re-donated, we helped a couple couples find unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that they are sure to wear again.
Retro-Funky Style
Much like the original "Goodwill Date" gals, Talisa is wearing a quintessential 80's top with shoulder pads, but she's tapping in to modern trends. The sequins and scoop neck are elements that we see in modern fashion trends, but her top is a fraction of the price of the modern pieces in department stores.
Kenneth is sporting a leather Members Only jacket, a great piece that can only be found at your local thrift store. Paired with casual jeans and a modern graphic tee, he's ready to hit the town and look good doing it.
Both Talisa and Kenneth are wearing a blend of vintage and modern; after an afternoon of thrifting for the best pieces, they are ready to hit the bar and go dancing!
The Classic Duo
Caitlin and Steven are heading on a more traditional date with flowers, dinner and a show.
Caitlin is wearing a dress and faux-leather jacket that have the perfect hint of Valentine's pink while still being trendy and flattering. Both items were found at Goodwill with original store tags on them.
Steven's outfit features a handsome overcoat, dress shirt and slacks, all of which he can incorporate into his work and everyday wardrobe.
Both Caitlin and Steven will stay warm with trendy outer layers that they can easily wear to work or a casual setting in the future.
