Goodwill Industries-Knoxville and Tennessee School for the Deaf Transition Services Department have formed a new partnership this year to help students earn an Occupational Diploma, which can be useful for students wishing to gain community employment after graduation.
Sharon came to Goodwill hoping to move to a more fulfilling, full-time job. Now, she is loving her new position as an administrative assistant, where she is using her newfound skills.
“I wanted help trying to find a job to support myself and my family. [My training] has helped me overcome certain goals that I had set for myself – to overcome talking to strangers and to get more sociable.”
These two ladies traded 6 weeks of intensive training for their CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) certifications. Now, they are able to provide better care for better pay, thanks to a partnership with Hancock Home Health and Goodwill.
Armed with determination, Mod Podge, a can of spray paint and some upholstery fabric, we created a no-sew "reupholstered" chair, just in time for Spring!
