Follow-Along Services
Follow-Along Services are provided exclusively for individuals referred
from The Department of Mental Retardation Services (DMRS) and are designed
to provide long-term support in the workplace. As required by DMRS,
individuals must have a full-scale IQ of 70 or below.
During the job placement phase, the individual is matched with employment
that is best suited to his/her needs and desires and are based on the
outcomes identified in the ISP. Once employment is obtained, the
program manager works to ensure that the individual receives all necessary
supports/accommodations that will allow him/her to learn all aspects of
the position. Follow-Along services continue indefinitely by
providing necessary job coaching, educating the community/employer on the
individual’s needs, visiting the job site a minimum of twice per month
or on an as-needed basis, and meeting annually to update the ISP and
ensure all goals are being met.
Individuals will typically participate in a Supplemental Evaluation, which
consists of up to three Situational Assessments. The assessments are
geared toward defining and individual’s strengths and weaknesses and
general interest areas. Using information gathered from the
Situational Assessments, background information, and interviews with the
individual, recommendations are made as to the most appropriate course of
action for addressing barriers and developing skills that will prepare the
individual for employment.
