PROGRAMS Vocational Evaluation Vocational Assessment
is a diagnostic program, which uses computerized and traditional
assessment instruments, designed to assess a person’s vocational,
psychological, educational, social and physical levels of functioning in
relation to their interests, intelligence and aptitude. Work Adjustment Individualized Work Adjustment
services, designed to establish appropriate social behaviors and work
habits necessary to successfully obtain and maintain competitive
employment, are based on information obtained from the Vocational
Assessment, the client and the referral source. School-to-Work Programs Two program options
are available for students: 1) School-to-Work, through DRS, and 2) School
Paid Programs, which are directly contracted through area school systems.
The ultimate goal of the program is to provide transitional training and
job placement assistance. Industrial Services Division Training This program is
designed to further develop individuals’ skills, as related to working
in an industrial contract environment. Participants develop valuable
skills in all areas of processing, quality control, packaging, and
shipping, while also earning a training wage. Janitorial Services Division Training The Janitorial
Services program provides participants with work experience and training
in a custodial setting, via the use of service contracts with private
employers and government agencies, where specific job skills relating to
the appropriate use of janitorial cleaning equipment and methods are
learned and training wages are earned. This program teaches job-seeking and
employment maintenance skills. Skills emphasized include job search
strategies and interviewing techniques. Extended Employment This program provides an alternative
to individuals who cannot function in competitive employment because of
the severity of their disability. Employment Skills Training 1) Clerical Skills
Training: While in Clerical Skills Training, individuals are taught the
basics of keyboarding and computer operation. 2) Self-Paced
Applications in the Computer Environment
(SPACE): This program provides
participants with self-paced and instructor lead training in Microsoft
Office applications (Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher
and Outlook). 3) Computer Repair Training Program
(CRT): A comprehensive preparatory training course for A+ Certification
that includes lectures, demonstrations, classroom discussions, work-study
and applied practical experiences, extensive hands-on training and

register operations and merchandising, via the use of classroom
instruction, field trips, simulated activities and internships. 5) Certified Nurses
Assistants (CNA) Training: The CNA program prepares students to work as
Certified Nurses Assistants and to pass the State Certification Exam. The
clinicals are based in local nursing homes or long term care facilities.
The Driver’s
Education program uses classroom lecture and practice, computerized
simulation, and practical on-the-road experience, with a certified
instructor to assist individuals in obtaining a valid State driver’s
license. Work Keys Services Services provided at
the Employment Development Assessment Center (EDAC) and rural satellites
include comprehensive work readiness assessments, basic skills training,
social and life skills training, job search training and job placement. Supported Employment Supported Employment
is a cooperative effort of Goodwill Industries, the Department of Mental
Health and Retardation (DMHMR) and DRS. Participants in this program
require continuous support and intensive training so they can maintain
competitive employment in the community. Follow-Along Services
are provided exclusively for individuals referred from The Department of
Mental Retardation Services (DMRS) and are designed to provide long-term
support in the workplace. As
required by DMRS, individuals must have a full-scale IQ of 70 or below. Selective Placement This program is structured to assist
individuals in identifying, obtaining and maintaining employment, which
